Stay Sane, Healthy & Fit Over the Holidays
Oh-ho-ho, the holidays are upon us. I'm still not quite ready for the whole-meal deal yet, but I DID just kick off a wonderful group of women who all want to stay sane, healthy, and fit over the holidays. It's so beautiful to work together to create the holidays we WANT to have rather than fall into the same traps year after year. If you want to maintain or lose weight during the holidays it can be extremely helpful to set your healthy holiday intentions. Giving in to what you always do basically sets the stage for how the holiday will be. But, if you decide to make a plan then THAT is how it will be! The mind works in many mysterious and powerful ways.
But, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. We can create balance.
Let’s take a look at the first of four areas for setting intentions for our health over holidays:
Having a well stocked kitchen—if we don’t do this, we end up eating whatever is easy and around, so make a list of just five good, healthy meals (simple, easy, and that you already know how to make) and always have those ingredients on hand for quick meals
Tips:
- I always like to have lots of green vegetables. They counteract all the junk and they help reduce sugar cravings (from magnesium) and crowd out your cravings for unhealthy food.
- Having some sweet veggies in your meals will help keep sugar cravings at bay as well.
- If you are hungry a lot during holidays, making soups can keep hunger at bay.
- It also means not having the holiday treats in your own HOME! Get them outta there. Let’s be fair to our will power. Sometimes I just throw them out. If you’re morally opposed, take them to soup kitchen, have your spouse to take them to work, give them to neighbor. This can be a HUGE step to feeling healthier.
And finally--here's a tip:
90/10 :: A great rule of thumb: if you are good 90% of the time during holidays you have that 10% to do with what you’d like at all those fun parties!
Stay tuned for area two in the next day or so!
