Your Skin, Inflammation, and Detoxification

Rob and I are just back from a fabulous trip to Raleigh and the Outer Banks with my brother Jon and his sweet wife Alison. We had one of those perfect vacations when everything goes perfectly and you just want it to last forever. We played in the ocean, ate great food, listened to the music Rob and Jon made around the fire each night and laughed. A lot. So sweet. The trip made me think more about my skin...keeping it protected from too much sun, hoping to show off a radiant glow. :)  Paying loving attention to the health of your skin is one of the best and easiest ways to listen to your body. Whatever is going on inside will eventually show up on the outside. So if you have skin concerns, chances are you need to look beyond the surface to discover what is really going on.

The skin is linked to all our major functions, including the immune, respiratory, circulatory, lymph, and neurotransmitter systems-but caring for yourself on any or all of these levels will improve the health of your skin.

All skin conditions that have recently been linked to chronic inflammation

To make significant improvements in the tone and texture of your skin, you need to soothe inflammation on two fronts:

  • by neutralizing free radicals (both inside and out); and
  • by boosting immune function through good nutrition, supplements, hormonal balance, detoxification, and topical support.

What are free radicals?

Free-radicals exert powerful pull on electrons in other cells, creating the kind of cell damage that lead to cancer, degenerative diseases, and aging (inflammation and irritation in the body). The best way to combat free-radical damage is to eat a healthy supply of antioxidants found in colorful fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices.

Boost your immune function Eating a diet that drenches your body in alkaline rich, anti-inflammatory foods (along with a few other lifestyle changes) while eliminating the foods that cause free-radicals is the easiest, cheapest, and more effective way to have glowing, radiant skin.
