Why I am So Passionate About This?
As I write this I'm a mid-50's menopausal woman who has moved through all the experiences of perimenopause and menopause and am passionate about empowering and educating women to take their health into their own hands.
I had my own wakeup call when, starting in my early 40's, I began to notice new and bizarre symptoms in my body: mood swings, low libido, extreme breast tenderness and the shortening of my cycle. My doctor at the time didn't mention the word perimenopause but took some blood, did an invasive procedure and sent me on my way because everything seemed 'just fine'. A few years later my cycle began changing again and my sleep began to shift, weight was accumulating around my belly (and yes, no changes to diet or exercise), and I started to get hot flashes . And they were quickly ramping up.
By the end of my perimenopausal years the worst of it started...daily, horrible headaches. These were truly the bane of my existence and nobody had any idea why they were happening. I was finally referred to a neurologist but it was six months in the future and frankly, I couldn't wait that long. I was miserable.
What did I do?
I took everything I'd been taught in integrative nutrition and functional medicine, along with getting hard data from functional medicine tests, and applied it to myself. And - it WORKED! Using a root cause approach, I was able to figure out what was causing the daily headaches and started down the road to being headache free. I was also sleeping like a baby, moving through the day hot-flash free and got rid of the fast accumulating excess in my middle.
And guess what else? With all the years of training and education I'd done along with my first-hand experience, I applied it to all of my clients. I gave them tools to resource and employ. Simple, but powerful, needle moving protocols — all based in a full-body systems approach and applying integrative nutrition, lifestyle tweaks, and targeted supplements and herbs.
