Being healthy ain't easy
Being healthy is stinkin' hard.At least, I think it is. I'm passionate about health and wellbeing. I always have been. As far back as I can remember I have loved to eat salads (not necessarily healthy ones:), exercise, read about the latest and greatest breakthroughs, study reports.
Over the years I've taken steps, not leaps, but steps to take better care of myself. Steps, not leaps, in getting my kids to eat nutrient dense food. Steps, not leaps, to begin to really love my body. It isn't easy to be or stay healthy in our culture where everything is done in fast motion. We've become used to 'fast' food and too busy to cook meals.
I get it! I'm a busy woman: I run my business, manage the household, manage the kids, volunteer, exercise, and on top of all that, try to cook healthy food for my family in a culture that sells and pushes junk food and quick fixes at us on every corner.
And on top of THAT, it just so happens that I have a child that has severe allergies and eczema. This may not sounds like a huge deal, but there hasn't been a day in Aidan's life that Rob (my husband) and I haven't had to lube him up every which way, figure out which foods were causing his flare ups and eliminate them (that's always fun with kids), agonize about whether or not we use steroids, and try every new fangled alternative therapy we can think of and then some. He's been to every kind of doc: allergists, naturopaths, acupuncturists, and even energy healers...you get the picture (and bless his heart!). It's hard. And quite frankly, demoralizing and exhausting. The hardest part is the suffering the eczema causes, but the second hardest part is feeding my kids healthy food amidst all of the above.
So, how do we, women with robust, full lives, stay on top of being healthy? How do we push back the deluge of constant offerings of junk and the ease of just opening a box of Kraft? How do we take time out to take care of ourselves?
Step-by-step, that's how. We add in things here and there. And we practice and test things out. We see what feels really good in our bodies and we sit with that for a bit, and then we add onto that. We put ourselves first on the list, so we have the energy to give to our children, our work, our dreams.
Because (and this is my honest to goodness belief here), if we don't take the time to create robust physical health as our foundation, how can we possibly live our fullest, most joyful life?
So here's my promise: everything I offer in my programs, my recipes, my tips, are all completely manageable. They are given to you from one busy woman to another. And, I want to hear from you! Please email with questions, comments, and what you'd like to learn about.
